Kaidan quietly huffed in frustration, pulling up the time on his Omni-tool. It had been over three hours since he had bunked down, and he was beginning to think that sleep just wasn’t going to happen for him tonight. He briefly considered just staying in bed – any rest was better than no rest at all, after all, and with his migraines he wouldn’t be able to take a stimulant later if he crashed – but the idea of spending another minute tossing and turning was enough to drive him insane.
He kicked off his covers with a sigh and quietly made his way to his station in the mess hall; if he couldn’t sleep, he may as well get some work done. Besides, it would look better if he did crash later.
He had expected to find the mess empty – the ship only ran with a skeleton crew at this hour – but as he rounded the corner, he saw Shepard sat at the table. Her hands were wrapped around a mug, and she had a faraway look on her face. He couldn’t help but smile fondly.
Day by day, Kaidan found himself getting to know the woman behind Commander Shepard, as she slowly lowered her walls and allowed herself to just be. A woman who was gentle, inquisitive, sometimes shy, and often deep inside her own head. Who made him feel safe talking about his past and never judged him or pitied him. A woman who was stronger than anyone he had ever met, who had been through the kind of hell that would break or harden anyone else, but she came through the other side still strong, still kind.
After serious consideration, I’ve decided to pursue top surgery privately, rather than through the NHS. As you’re probably aware, this is going to be Considerably more expensive, and I could use a little help with it.
